It is what you make it

The season to be jolly is here and more to the point, the day on which to be the merriest of all has come and almost gone. I hope this post is published in the nick of time.
For most people - including myself and besides the religious and spiritual meaning to the day - today turned out to be the day that I pigged out until the belt on my jeans was a little too tight and everything that maybe considered 'bad' for me seemed to make a bee line straight into my mouth - no questions asked!
Today we put aside the worries about the latest financial scam... never mind that finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta swears that the education system will not be affected by the misappropriation of said monies and tried successfully to train our minds on more pleasant things such as family and friends.
This was a time to reconnect with old friends and the family members you know about or meet entirely new branches of the tree you did not, a time to build bonds or reaffirm existing relationships. It was also - for many, young and old alike, wealthy and not - to get drunk, some got so blotto in fact that they couldn't even walk.
Now usually there are a lot of car accidents at this time of year, not this year though; this time Mother Nature was at it with a vengeance bringing with her strong winds and floods to several parts of the country. I however do not see logic in blaming this on the elements or - and I cringe while admitting this - the metrological department, which must be the only job on the planet where you can be so horribly wrong 96% of the time and still be employed.
The weather has been unpredictable all year round and this month is no different but it's all our fault - we humans, the so called evolved, progressive race, we seem to have somehow made a mess of the earth... we tried to fix it at Copenhagen but still could not come out with anything solid, we couldn't agree on just how to proceed.
Okay, enough of bashing the workings of the world, at least for today.
I was made aware today that: Anything in life is as you make it - this nugget of wisdom was passed on to me in relation to Christmas, I am inclined to agree... Everything begins in your head with your thoughts and the way you translate a message, everything is a choice.
For this one day we chose to put literally everything else down or at least on the back burner and celebrate. Life can be so stressful that we should do it more often.
