More of the same.... or is it?

Like most people,I find myself glued to my screens for the news, yes I said it, the news. It has ceased to be the boarding and contritely repetitive spew of the 80 and 90 a la retired president Moi and become - less about the commander of the armed forces - more about what is truly wrong with the country exposing it seedy, festering underbelly for the ever more discerning voter to ponder and dissect believe it has evolved so due to considerably more freedom provided to the 4th Estate thus allowing the dog to grow teeth. This week has been an excellent one for every patriotic Kenyan alive as we scooped yet more medals as the commonwealth games came to a close yesterday. But the thing that left me quite puzzled is why our contingent did not await the last day and arrive home all together, further more why where they not able to visit any Indian villages or take some time out to experience India's beauty and culture? What of those villagers who scrubbed and cleaned their surrounding...

For your amusement...

The past few weeks since I made my last entry have been both interesting and amusing... The funniest of the occurrences must be that of the pastor who ministering under the promise to deliver good, single men to the thousands of single ladies who flocked the KICC on the 4th as the ‘apostle of marriage’ came to town with his bag of goodies, it was said that almost immediately after some of the women began receiving calls and proposals as if by magic, leading some to think that Chris Ojigbani is in tight with the good lord up above... I however am very sceptical of the Nigerian pastor and am tempted to question what's wrong with going out there and just meeting someone? Call me old fashioned if you must but, in my opinion nothing beats a good old date/ conversation. I still can not believe the levels of desperation and continue to laugh at the prospect of an instant marriage... Anyone for an instant baby? Yet another occurrence that served to get Kenyans all wound up into tight k...

Pridefull Shame...

These past few weeks have been a fast paced rollercoaster ride that leapt between the pride of the nation to the pits of shame and disgust. I for one was a proud voter and on August 4th I woke up earlier than usual had nothing to eat and made my way to the polling station, which I’m glad to say was not far from where I reside. The whole exercise took mere minutes after which the pinkie of my left hand was doused in purple ink for all to see. The problem I have now is how to get the pesky ink – now black – off, it went from looking good and a reason to brag to appearing like a child had let loose with a Crayola black marker! Then stayed up all night and into the wee hours of the morning, peeking into the minute by minute broadcast on my favourite TV station, it truth I only stayed up out of fear of waking up the next morning and finding that the results had been skewed. I had to finally tear myself away from the smiling, but most likely equally exhausted faces being beamed live onto ...

No love lost...

We have survived the quagmire and made it back into the light, sane and undaunted by the surrounding clamour. We have read between the lines and un waxed our ears for a better deduction of the cold, hard facts. I for one am gladder than most that tomorrow, I will get a chance to have my feelings and thoughts heard and that those in postitions of power will be forced to live with my decision whether they like it or not. In short I feel quite powerful. It is because of this power that I will sacrifice the un yielding, warmth and comfort of my quilt covered bed, get dressed and march straight to the voting centre, single minded and prepared to affect change. If you're not Kenyan or are thoroughly confused and haven't caught on to what I'm going on about, tomorrow we Kenyans prepare for a new dawn with a fare amount of trepidation over the after effects... we will go to the polls and vote either to enact a new constitution or not. But as tomorrow is still too far away (especi...

A heaped plate... of dissapointment.

The Weekend ended on a low for me and all other football fans that dared support the Netherlands when they went up against the Matadors of Spain. I will try to limit my ranting about the horrid refereeing not only in the last match but throughout the tournament! A good thing to come out of the human error mess is that it forced Sepp Blatter and FIFA to reopen the case on goal line technology; hopefully we will not have to sit through any more agonizingly bad calls that mar the beauty of the game. At this juncture a standing ovation must go to S.A for organizing a great tourney! Back to Kenya and the failings of our system... Those who were responsible for Uhuru Park grenade incident are yet to be brought to book, this even after the military joined the search for the culprits. But they are hard at work and a report of their finding will be delivered ASAP. But by far the thing that has irked me the most is that our MP's are intent on increasing their salaries and perks exponent...

Grenades, Footballs and everything in between

The world cup has enthralled and monopolised both my time and my sleep and all though I have born witness to every game so far and will continue to do so until the final whistle is blown on July the 11th I am not completely oblivious to the goings on around the country. So this will serve as a quick catch before I resume my place at the sofa in front of the box that will transport me to SA. In the few weeks since I last stroked the keys of this keyboard, and sat before this blank page to compose my thoughts. Three grenades have exploded at Uhuru Park. It was a Sunday like any other and the politicians of the No campaign thought it a good idea to hold a campaign at the park to air their on all that is wrong with the document. It was going well until an explosion somewhere in the crowd brought the proceedings to a halt; this happened twice more killing 5 people and injuring 79. It seemed all too unreal to me as I caught up with the news, as if something out of an action movie... but thi...

Unconstitutional Court...

The constitution is still this weeks talking point as a new poll conducted by Synovate. According to the poll the yes camp is still leading but are losing ground to a continually resurgent no campaign, and as leaders continue to criss- cross the country in search of all important votes spanners are constantly thrown into the works to greet them. Last week that spanner came in the form of Kadhis’ courts. The furore began when three judges declared the clause in the constitution on Kadhis’ courts un constitutional. In the landmark ruling, the judges sitting as a Constitutional Court, said the decision to include the kadhi courts in the country's supreme law was an illegality that favoured one religion over others. The two opposing Green and Red camps immediately leapt into action, with the Greens (otherwise known as those in the Yes corner) quick to assure the public that the judgement would not halt the referendum, while their Red counterparts (consisting of members of the clergy...
