The church speaks for us all...

These past few weeks have been chock full of the big bad abortion debate and wherever conception really begins. The church put its foot in it once again by saying that they speak for all Christians when they outlaw abortion and that would raise hell and all manner of objections were the dastardly act enshrined within its pages. I am at pains to explain that the church does not speak for all Christians. Being one myself I do believe that it is a morally wrong act and should not be performed with reckless abandon by any woman who simply does not want a child, having said that though I do believe that if the pregnancy endangers the life of the mother the doctor should then be allowed to suggest the procedure, sign off on and perform said procedure. I also believe that these were the exact sentiments of the law makers when they wrote the article to legalise the act. As the past week wore on I began to see another area where the mother of said child may want to or have to partake in endi...

Esther Arunga is no more...

Esther Adongo Arunga is now Esther Adongo Timberlake. This latest twist in the tale came on Friday as Esther along with her mentor Joseph Hellon sat down with the press- the same media that she is suing and had earlier accused of ‘bogus journalism’- and told them that she was in the process of suing not only the press but her parents and famed psychologist Njenga for unlawful detention and sedation. She also declared that she was ‘happily married to Quincy Timberlake’ who is still in jail. When she was asked how the marriage had happened she quieried ‘don’t you know that people get married while on death row’ Well in case she was unaware her new husband is neither a dead man walking or anywhere near death. The 28 year old wants 300 million from her parents Dr. Robert Arunga and Mrs. Petoline Arunga and had further asked the courts to restrain the two from interfeiring with her rights and freedoms. So this is how some choose to repay their parents for their years of love, affection and...

Fingers and Miracles

The past week has had me shaking my head in disbelief and laughing probably harder than I should. The big story of the week is the Finger of God ministry and its leader Joseph Hellon along with his famous side kick Esther Arunga. Apparently Esther left her cuhsy job at KTN on last week for reasons that seem neither here nor there. On Thursday the 28 year old beauty came out to clear the air with some fighting words to the media saying that they were engaged in 'stupid reporting' and garbage reporting. She also revealed having quit her job with KTN, called off her planned wedding to Mr Malaba and was now living in the church mansion with Mr Helon and his wife Kuyu and other followers. She also denied that she had shut her family and friends out of her life, although her parents and siblings expressed concern over her well-being. Her 'spiritual mentor' Joseph Hellon with whom she lives in Runda was by her side where he stated that 'no news is bad news' and proc...

Not reading from the same script

It was another normal, lazy Sunday afternoon and I was casually channel surfing and thoroughly board when I passed by some breaking news that said that Sam Ongeri and William Ruto had been suspended for three months. This was due to the fact that the two had been implicated in the Free Primary Education and Maize scams respecively. My first thought was to cheer at the fact that finally the government were keeping to their word of being firm on corruption suspects and that maybe just maybe the investigations that were to be held in their absence would yield some fruit in the struggle against corruption. I was happiest that for once words were not just words. A few hours later my elation and hope were dashed and I was brought firmly back to earth when president made the statement nullifying Mr Odingas suspension of the two ministers on the grounds 'that they are unconstitutional.' This came hot on the heel of an announcement by the president on Saturday that eight public offici...

I will not resign

The education ministy and its minister Sam Ongeri are once again at the tips of everyones tongue. There have been many calls for the minister and his P.S to resign due to the misappropriation of the free primary education funds, now however the Prime Minister has added his voice to those calling for the ministers swift exit. The P.M asked the president to fire Hon. Ongeri to allow for a full investigation into the missing funds. The minister was once again as defiant (as they've all been when backed into a corner) as a caged animal accusing the Prime Minister of staging 'witch hunt' and of 'politicing'. On the other hand President Kibaki has pledged to be firm on any and all culprits of corruption. But once again I am scheptical that these words will once again come to naught. If history is to be my teacher and indeed a teacher to us all we can see that corruption has not really been dealt with affirmativly in kenya. This is not the first call for Ongeri to vaica...

The hot potato that everyone wants to drop

Abdullah el-Faisal has become something of a hot potato that no one wants to handle. The 45-year-old Jamaican-born Muslim cleric was arrested by Kenyan authorities on New Year's Day for preaching at a mosque in Nairobi, Kenya. This breached stipulations of his work permit. Efforts to deport el-Faisal back to his native Jamaica have been thwarted by other countries unwillingness to let him transit though their airports. The subsequent protests by Muslim youth which was called by the Muslim Human Rights Forum to protest the arrest of controversial cleric Sheikh Abdullah el-Faisal in on Friday turned violent and caused the death of at least four people and injured 15, including a member of the GSU. Vehicles, business premises and buildings worth millions did not escape the wrath of the young protesters. The numerous youth engaged police in battle by pelting them with stones, to which the initially overwhelmed police replied with canisters of teargas and live bullets. The controvers...

Multicomplication.

Earlier this week Jacob Zuma tied his fifth knot! To many living outside South Africa - where polygamy is practiced by 'traditionalists' of which the ANC leader is one - Zuma's choice is baffling and a multicomplication. I cannot see the logic of this choice except if the president were in competition with King Mswati of Swaziland; in which case he had better quit as the King has a jaw dropping 13 wives (as of 08)! These men are truly in a league of their own. One can't help but wonder why inflict such inevitable complications on yourself. Most may men have trouble dealing with just one wife what of 5 or 13? It is a fact that these men are considerably wealthier than the average man but in my mind that doesn't even begin to justify polygamy. If you are like me you have not been keeping count of Mr. Presidents many spouses so here is a breakdown courtesy of The right perspective He is still married to his first wife, Sizakele Khumalo, whom he met in 1959. Not mu...
